Sweater Weather

I hate sweater weather.Yesterday on our way to our grandma's we did a random shoot with my cousin.
I styled my box pleat dress with houndstooth roll neck, thin striped blazer, mustard scarf & ankle wedges.

Butternut Soup

I like butternut squash because is full of flavour,so when make the soup I just keep it very simple.

Ingredients
Onions
1.1 onion
2.1 tomato
3.2 gloves of garlic
4.1-2 cups of chicken stock
5.pinch of salt
6.1 tbsp oil.
7.1 small butternut squash

Saute your onion for 2 minutes.
Add tomatoes & garlic and cook for 3 minutes.
Then add your butternut & chicken stock.
Cook till butternut can be poked by a fork.
Pour all content from your pan to a blender.
Blend until smooth.
Pour the contents from the blender back into the pan/pot.
Serve immediately.

Grilled Sweet Potatoes

I love serving fries with guacamole.

1.sweet potatoes
2.cinnamon powder
3.pinch of cayenne powder
4.pinch of salt
5.1 tbsp of oil
6.cumin

Add sweet potatoes in a bowl.
Add oil & the remaining ingredients to the bowl.
Place your potatoes on the grill.
Cook on high heat for 10 minutes on each side.
Serve hot.

Jerk Chicken

I fell in love with jerk chicken at a likkle Jamaican restaurant near our house.

The marinade.....
1.1 tsp apple cider vinegar
2.pinch of nutmeg
3.2 tsp cinnamon powder
4.1 tsp ground cloves
5.2 cloves of garlic
6.2 tsp dried thyme
7.mixed spices(cumin,cardamon,cloves)
8.1 red onions
9.pinch of salt & sugar
10.pineapples(optional)
11.chicken

Blend your marinade & marinate your chicken overnight for best result.

Remove your chicken from the marinade & brown it on both sides.I used a non-stick pan on low heat.

Remove chicken from pan & add 1 onion & saute for a minute.

Add your chicken & the marinade and cook for 5-10 minutes,my chicken was pre-boiled cause chicken stock.

I served my chicken with stir fry veggies & grilled potatoes.You can also grill your jerk chicken.

GREEN SMOOTHIE

I love tweaking my smoothie recipes.I use different greens,super charge the smoothie with moringa,garlic and cinnamon powder & sweeten it with coconut honey.I bought coconut honey at the ask show, standard did an article on its production.You can read it here

I used....
1 cup water
3 bananas
Parsley/kale or spinach
Moringa
Cinnamon
Garlic
Coconut honey

>>>>Blend everything together.

My choker was a trial piece for a commission.At first I didn't want to make it cause I thought it could be heavy on the neck.Long story short,I made it & it's super light.I styled this statement piece with high waisted pants,my fav, striped shirt & animal print heels.

Hibiscus Iced Tea

I hope you are all having an amazing week.I have some tea for you on the blog today lol.I initially bought,at the ask show,hibiscus dried flowers for my hair but when I was doing my rounds on the interwebs,I found some tea recipes using hibiscus.I love love this iced esp with the weather in Nairobi.For more info on hibiscus/side effects & other recipes check here

You'll need:
1/4 cup Hibiscus
1 Cinnamon stick
Sugar or any other sweetener(I used honey)
2 Cloves
4 cups of water

Directions:
Add hibiscus,cinnamon,cloves to one cup boiling water.
Let it cook over low heat for 10 minutes.
Turn off heat & let the tea steep for five minutes.
Strain & add the remaining 3 cups of water.
Add sugar/honey.
Add Ice or refrigerate to drink later.

Yesterday I went to my first worldwide insta meet,will be posting pics soon.I was going for comfort,so I styled my striped top with overalls & boots.My hair is in a goddess braid,protective style of the week.Lovely week everyone. Photo cred: A friend I met at the meet.

Diy...Air Drying Herbs

I love cooking with dried herbs cause I cant go the market everyday to buy fresh herbs & I also use them for my herbal hair rinses.
You'll need...

fresh herbs
water
rubber band
string
hanger

-Wash your  herbs.
-Bundle your herbs with a rubber band..mine are bundled at the market.
-Tie the herbs with the string leaves/flowers facing downwards.
 -Hang your herbs.

Drying takes 5 to 7 days but it depends with the herbs.When cooking with dried herbs you'll need less..three times the amount of fresh herbs as dry.For example,if a recipe calls for 3  teaspoons of  fresh sage use 1 teaspoon of dried sage.

Herbal Hair Rinse..
Pour boiling water over your herbs & let it cool.Strain and pour over clean hair.

Sage...promotes healthy hair & cleanses the oil buildup.
Rosemary..promotes hair growth,darkens the hair & covers the grays.
